Patrick’s paternal grandparents were Edward Lynch and Jane Cooney.
Patrick's paternal grandfather was Edward Lynch. He married Jane Cooney in Killucan on 28th February 1824, indicating that he was born at the start of the nineteenth century. Edward is recorded in the Tithe Applotment books of the 1830s. He had a holding of 15 Irish acres (equivalent to approximately 23 statute acres), 10 of which were prime quality land. The tithe levied was £1 3s 4½d per year. This was a particularly unpopular levy with the catholic tenants, as it was for the established Church of Ireland parish funds.
The Tithe Applotment Book entry for Edward Lynch
In the Griffith Valuation of the 1860’s, Edward’s name has been replaced by James Lynch, suggesting that Edward was already deceased by then. James was most likely their eldest son, although no baptismal record has been found for him.
Patrick's paternal grandmother married Edward Lynch on 28th February 1824, making it likely that she was born around the start of the nineteenth century. No other records have been found for her yet.
