Thomas Cassidy was born about 1836 (based on the 1901 census) and married Bridget McManus from Bunmichael in Roslea on 1st March 1870. They had nine children, two of whom died in infancy. Thomas was at home with three of his children in 1901. After he died in 1910, his son Patrick inherited the farm, married Catherine McMahon from Drumguiff and had six children, one of whom was the father of the author’s good friend Stella Cassidy of Mount Saint Anne’s, Dublin.
Thomas’ eldest daughter Catherine married Patrick Goodwin in 1896 and moved to Blantyre in Scotland, where Patrick worked as a coalminer and they had three children. The family returned to the Clones area about 1900, and they had two more children there. Patrick Goodwin died from chronic depression in 1908.
Isabella Cassidy married Hugh McAloon and the family are described here.
